Blitzball Guide
FINAL FANTASY X: BLITZBALL GUIDE
CHARACTER/BLITZER STATS
Each Blitzer has a set of stats and these indicate their ability and tell you what position they are best suited for.
HP- This is used to pay for special techniques and will slowly drain as a character swims around.
A character with 0HP will still swim around but wil1 not pass or shoot to their ability, but
can slowly gain HP when NOT handling the ball.
SPD- This represents speed, relevantly the higher the speed the better, because the speed rarely
goes up as the character levels up.
END- The character endurance. A high END character has a little chance of having the ball
tackled away from them.
PA- The passing ability of a character. A defender or mid-fielder need a good PA.
SH- Representing the shooting ability. All forwards need good SH.
AT- This is a characters tackling ability when in defence. This is used when you are trying to
tackle the ball away from someone.
BL- This is the ability intercept incoming shots or passes.
CA- A good CA is needed by every goalie and ability to reject incoming shots.
With all this in mind, the golden rule is:
Forwards- They need good SH, SPD and EN.
Mid-fielders- Any of them need good EN, AT and PA.
Defenders- Defenders need good AT, BL and PA.
Goal keeper- The goalie needs a high CA.
-The general rule is that the higher the HP the better.
SPECIAL TECHNIQUES AND KEY TECHNIQUES
All the Blitzers will have three key techniques, these are listed in their techniques menu. Learning this techniques will expand the characters available blank technique slots, which will make them learn more techniques.
Special techniques are given to specific characters for those techniques, but it is possible for another character to learn the by technocopying. You can technocopy by choosing to make a single player on the opposing team your mark. If the character is able to learn any of the opposing player's techniques, the names will appear in blue. Now during the Blitzball game choose the character, you are technocopying, as your mark and if that character uses the relevant technique the word "technocopy" will flash yellow in the top left-hand corner of the screen. Press the x button and if your character is on a high enough level, he or she will learn the technique.
COMMON TECHNIQUES
Shots- The various shots are wither, venom and nap shot and these raise the characters SH. The will also inflict the related status ailments on the goalie.
Tackle- The various tackles are wither, venom, nap and drain tackle and these raise the characters ATK and can inflict the related status ailments on the character attacked.
Passes- The various passes are wither, venom and nap pass and these increase the characters PA and those who unsuccessfully block the pass may windup with a status ailment.
Anti-Techniques- These protect against the status ailments wither, venom and nap.
Brawler- This raises the characters range, letting them challenge players who are further away.
Golden Arm- This cuts down water resistance, so passes and shots do not loose PA or SH that quickly. All team members need the golden arm technique.
Super Goalie- This randomly raises a goalies CA and, sadly, every freaking CPU in the game has it.
Sphere Shot- Randomly raises SH.
Grip Gloves- Essential to a goalie, since it improves his/her catching ability.
Tackle Slip- the character has a chance to dodge an attackers tackle.
Volley Shot- If, the equipped character, is in range of the goal they will automatically shoot.
You can equip techniques on characters that are of Level 3+. But additional techniques can be gotten as you level up, to a maximum of five slots at level 30 (sometimes 35 depending on character).
THE JECHT SHOT
This is the special of all special techniques. After kilika, when on the deck S.S Winno, Tidus has the chance to master his father's trademark technique, the Jecht Shot. As a beginning player, the Jecht Shot is your one real advantage against a league with high-level Blitzers.
Basically what you do with the shot, when Tidus close to the goal, and is faced with only two or fewer defenders and has at least 120HP, you should choose No Break, Shoot and Jecht Shot. Tidus will in turn knock both defenders silly and will shoot for goal as though the defenders were not there. If there are three people you can choose to Break past the first one and use the Jecht Shot to take out the other two.
The Jecht Shot 2 is basically the same as the Jecht Shot, except it will hit 3 defending Blitzers blocking you. This amazing move also has the same effect as the Invisible Shot, you are guaranteed a 100% goal if this is used. Getting the Jecht Shot 2, however, is the hard bit. Getting it depends solely on Tidus, if Tidus is on level 20 you have a 20% percent chance of it appearing as a tournament prize. If Tidus is on level 46, you have a 46% chance of getting it to appear as a tournament prize and so on.
BLITZBALL TEAMS
Guado Glories- The team is very good at offence but poor on defence. They are fast and have decent shooters among the team. Taking the ball from someone, for the Glories, is an extremely slow process. Early in the game, it is easy to win against them, but once Gierra and Zazi start to level up, be carefull.
TEAM MEMBERS: All can be found in Guadosalam. They are:
 Zazi Guado
 Pah Guado
 Auda Guado
 Noy Guado
 Nav Guado
 Gierra Guado
Kilika Beasts- The wild cards of the Spira League, the Beasts have just gotten there. They have one of the strongest defences in the League, making it difficult to get a shooter close to the goal, this is good for the team since Mizarut is a crap goalie. Isken does not have very high SH, but he does have the weird tendency to accumulate powerful techniques like Invisible Shot. In the beginning of the game they are an easy win, but later on, look out for the Beasts.
TEAM MEMBERS:
 Kulukan
 Isken
 Vuroja
 Larbeight
 Mizarut
Besaid Aurochs- The Aurochs start of stupidly slow and they `boast' the worst players in the entire League. Datto is a descent forward, Jassu and Botta are not bad defenders, but other than that the rest of the team are Big Fat Stinking Losers.
TEAM MEMBERS: They are all in their locker room in Luca. They are:
 Datto
 Jassu
 Botta
The other team members are not even worth mentioning because they are so useless.
Ronso Fangs- The Fangs are super slow, but extremely strong. You can easily catch up to them, but their EN is insanely high that the average Ronso can get tackled by up to four defenders and still keep the ball. To score against these Blue Beasts you will need to completely abuse your SPD and work on passing a lot. The player to look out for is Argai Ronso who is arguably the best mid-level forward in the game.
TEAM MEMBERS: All the members can be found in Dock 4 in Luca.
Al Bhed Psyches- The most hated team in the tournament, possibly because they always win with high scores. Blappa and Eigaar are the best attackers at the beginning of the game. Scoring against Nimook, their goalie, is an impossible nightmare, so you will need to abuse the Jecht Shot and shoot from as close from the goal as you can. The fortunate thing with the Psyches is that they have the tendency to dismiss their best players at the beginning.
TEAM MEMBERS: Most of them are in the storeroom on the airship, except Lakkam, she is outside. The members are:
 Blappa
 Eigaar
 Nimook
 Lakkam
Luca Goers- For all their bragging and posturing before and during the Crystal Cup Tournament, the Goers are not very good. If they get the ball things will go badly, but they will have a hard time doing so because they have the lowest AT in the League. This flaw put together with their goalie Raudy, who always takes naps during games, you have a formula for the worst team in the League.
FREE AGENTS
These tend to be the best Blitzers in Spira and you will find them all over the place. Other teams will find them and recruit them as well, so by the time you are about 30-40 games in your career, none of the other teams will resume their original line-up and nor will you.
THE FREE AGENTS OF FFX ARE:
Mifurey- She starts of as a good all round player and mid-fielder, with a descent SH and okay PA. At a high-level Mifurey, with the correct techniques, can score past any goalie in the game. Sadly she has low SPD, so she will get challenged by every opposing player before GOAL!
Location: The clerk in the Travel Agency in the Thunder Plains.
Naida- She starts slow and will never be a good shooter. You can, however, develop Naida in to an extraordinary defender/mid-fielder. Equip her with a couple of Tackle Techniques and she is a contender.
Location: The clerk at the Calm Plains Travel Agency.
Biggs- Like Tidus, Biggs is meant to be an attacker and nothing other than that.
Wedge- You should put Wedge as a defender, but he has got the best SH of any starting character. It us best to recruit him so other teams do not.
Location: Both Biggs and Wedge are guarding the stairs between the locker rooms in Luca.
Yuma Guado- A Guado? A Guado I hear you say, well it is true. He is a free agent but the worst of all the four free agent goalies, which is probably why his own team members (the Guados) rejected him. So do not even bother recruiting him.
Location: You will not really need him, but he is in the back of the house in Guadosalam.
Brother- He is by far the best Blitzer in the game. His only low point is EN, but that would be a good score on another player. Recruit Brother now, I mean NOW!
Location: The Mascara-wearing Fruit head piloting the Airship.
Wakka- He is a bare-breasted, half-arsed version of Tidus and shares the same strengths and weaknesses as him. Wakka's biggest advantage takes time to get, but when you do, it's damn worth it if you learn all of Wakka's Key Techniques. He can learn the Aurochs Spirit Technique as a random prize in the tournament.
What Aurochs Spirit does is to add together all the whole team's SH and give it to Wakka. Combine this with the Golden Arm Technique and suddenly Wakka is the best shooter in the game.
Location: You can recruit Wakka for an insanely low salary of 1gil the first time you ride on the Airship
Mep- with descent all round stats and a super high BL, but oddly this goes down as he levels up. That really does not mean much good, so if you need a good defender search elsewhere.
Location: Priest to the left of the front door in Killika Temple.
Miyu- Really good AT, BL and CA, but other than that a lousy player. The second best of the free agent goalies, albeit, she is good in more than one position.
Location- Sitting on the bench in front of the Guadosalam sign, on the north wharf of the Moonflow.
Svanda- An all-round good player, for a good affordable price. Her real weakness though is her laughably low HP, paired with the tendency towards learning expensive techniques.
Location- Overlooking the scar on the Calm Plains.
Zev Ronso- As Yuma Guado, Zev is a Ronso but a free agent. He is an okay defender, but a much better attacker. However, either way he is slow. If you teach Zev the technique Brawler he becomes much better, but there are others who are as good or much better him who do not need help.
Location- Standing next to dock 5 in Luca
Kyou- He does not do much with the ball, as he does not know what to do when he has it. Kyou has a very high AT, CA and more SPD than most, but other wise totally unremarkable.
Location- The guard in blue on the bridge outside Djose Temple.
Zalitz- Like Kyou above, Zalitz is very good at taking the ball, but lousy at doing something with it. He has a high AT and BL, lousy SH, tinny EN and PA.
Location- Sitting on the bridge out front of the Sphere Theatre in Luca.
Durren- A good player, but unremarkable goalie.
Location- One of the Crusaders standing around near the Cavern of the Fayth.
Ropp- A standard-issue defensive player. Lovely.
Location- The guy behind the desk at the Mi'ihen Highroad Travel Agency.
Rin- A cheap, crap mid-fielder. Square must have been on drugs to put him into a game like this.
Location- Standing in the hall of YOUR airship. Get out you crap!
